Choose The Right Children’s Shoes At Back-To-School Time
♫ Thursday, September 25th, 2008It’s back to school time and your children will need new shoes. Keep in mind that although the shoe looks good, it is also important to make sure that it fits properly. Your children’s feet continue to grow throughout their teen years. They will experience several growth spurts. That is why it is important to check their shoe size periodically. Always have both their feet measured when purchasing your children’s shoes. It is best to do this while they are in the standing position. Check to make sure that there is at least one thumbs width between your child’s big toe and the end of the shoe. Make sure that the heel has a nice snug fit. If the width of the shoe isn’t quite right, move on to the next pair. Remember, it is always best to shop for footwear in the evening when your child’s foot is more swollen from walking all day long. This practice will give you a much better idea as to your child’s correct shoe size.
It is very important to provide your children with good, supportive footwear. Concentrate your search on strong, sturdy shoes. Choose shoes with good heel strength and arch support. New footwear should feel comfortable from the very first time it is worn. A new shoe really doesn’t need to be “broken in”. If it does, then it’s just not the right match for your child’s foot. Look for footwear made out of a material that breathes well. When it comes to children’s footwear, it is best to avoid high heels. It is recommended that you stick with a flat, textured sole. This type of shoe provides the best traction and prevents slipping.
